Position Summary:
The Solutions Design Engineer supports the development, pricing, and design of integrated supply chain solutions for prospective and existing customers. This role works closely with Sales and operational teams to analyze customer requirements, build models, and assist in developing solutions across multiple business units.
This position plays a key role in translating customer data and operational inputs into structured analyses that inform solution development and pricing decisions. The Associate will gain exposure to customer-facing strategy, cross-functional coordination, and multi-service solution design while building foundational expertise in transportation and warehouse engineering. Success in this role requires strong analytical capability, attention to detail, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment supporting multiple concurrent opportunities.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Participate in early-stage opportunity evaluation by gathering, validating, and analyzing customer data including volume profiles, order characteristics, and service requirements
- Translate customer inputs into structured datasets and baseline assumptions used for solution design and pricing models
- Assist in designing integrated supply chain solutions across LTL, Dedicated, Brokerage, and Warehousing business units
- Build detailed cost models including labor, transportation, storage, and value-added service components
- Develop warehouse layouts, storage configurations, and operational workflows based on customer requirements and volume projections
- Support transportation analysis including routing logic, network considerations, and mode selection assumptions
- Maintain financial and operational models to evaluate multiple solution scenarios and sensitivities
- Assist in the preparation of customer-facing materials including proposals, solution summaries, and pricing documentation
- Participate in internal strategy sessions and customer discussions to build understanding of solution design and commercial considerations
- Support transition of awarded business by organizing design documentation and ensuring alignment with operational teams
To be qualified for this position, you must possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Systems, Mechanical, or related discipline), Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, Economics (with a quantitative focus), or a related analytical field
- 1–4 years of relevant experience in supply chain, logistics, transportation, warehousing, or industrial engineering
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with large datasets
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (modeling, scenario analysis, data manipulation)
- Ability to translate data into structured insights and actionable recommendations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to learn and develop in a customer-facing, solution-oriented role
- Ability to travel as needed (primarily Northeast region)
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
- Internship or experience within a 3PL, transportation provider, or warehouse operation
- Exposure to cost modeling, pricing analysis, or financial modeling concepts
- Experience with data visualization or analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
- Familiarity with WMS, TMS, or supply chain systems
- Basic understanding of warehouse operations, transportation networks, or distribution models
- Exposure to layout tools (AutoCAD) or process flow mapping
